Sugarbowl is very hard to beat for a number of reasons. Regardless of your level they have great terrain and decent facilities. We have been Core members for a few years now and love the program. The lessons that are part of the program have really helped my 10 year old daughter go from never ridden a snowboar...

In my mind, Sugar Bowl defines the skiing day trip. It's not a destination resort, but it's 30+ minutes closer to the Bay Area than the Tahoe resorts... and it's got much more varied/interesting terrain than the other spots on this side of the summit. Even fairly hardcore skiers can create a full day of fun here hopping the rocks under the Mt...

Finally!!  I learned how to do heels and stop so I'm not just tumbling blindly down the slopes and hurt somebody in the process.  And I have this place to thank (beside my wonderful teacher)!  There are not a lot of people here so it's perfect for a dangerous beginner like me to learn how to snowboard.  Plus there are a few different paths on the bunny slopes so you can pick the right one for you.  The fellow snowboarders and skiers here are quite friendly and supportive.  One gentleman commented I had "the most graceful fall" he has ever seen.  =) I got the beginner package without the lessons as I have my friend to teach me.  It came out to $68, which is a bit pricey but worth it.  I tried the beginner's p...

If you want a traditional family experience, no other Tahoe resort compares. First resort in the Sierras (pre summit!), shortest drive from SF, more snow (due to facing and shape of the mountain), diverse skiing (alpine, telemark, snow board, cross ...

My cousin and I came here with her 2 sons on accident.  We were supposed to go to another resort, but ended up going the wrong way and decided to go here instead of back tracking to our original plan.  Let's just say it was a great accident coming here! We came on MLK day and were thinking it might be crowded, but it wasn't at al...

Awesome place with lots of jumps, rails, and boxes. An awesome place to push your skills to the next level given the variety of jumps. There are plenty of peaks and beautiful views from most chairs. This was the first place I ever snowboarded when I was starting and had an awesome tim...

My first time at Sugar Bowl was about 2-3 weeks ago. I'm not an expert rider by any means, but I love going snowboarding. I'd probably say I'm close to intermediate, but even that might be saying too much! When I went with my cousins, it seemed like a good time to go. Snow was falling so not too many people were out there. I like how the gondola was right there by the parking lot, so we didn't have to walk far. And it's a pretty big mountain. I guess my only gripe is that to get to the other side of the mountain, you have to go on some pretty flat trails. And I hate losing momentum, then having to undo my binding(s) and skate or walk. Then to get back to the other side, you have to take the RIGHT lift back u...

I enjoyed riding here and was able to get in a lot of runs thanks to the quad express chairs. The grooming on Judah side is pretty good and that's coming from a guy who's very particular about groom quality. Sugar Bowl isn't big like Squaw but that appeals to me because the c...

Sugar Bowl is by far our favorite resort to ride.  It offers a wide variation of skill levels, and is quick and easy to get to.  The runs are not as long as some of the other bigger resorts, but the lift lines are generally pretty short, so that makes up for it.  I haven't p...

* Does size matter?  No.  It is all about having FUN, especially when there is a time constraint. Sugar Bowl Ski Resort may not be as BIG as Heavenly, Kirkwood or Squaw Valley, but I love going here simply because when I come here during the weekday, the lift lines are SHORT and that translates to more snowboarding time and more runs. * Is it close to the Bay Area?  Yes.  As the first ski resort from Interstate 80 to Tahoe, the drive is about 3.5 hours to 4 hours, depending how fast I drive and how light the traffic is. * Does the resort offer something for everyone?  Yes. The overall experience is more enjoyable without the craziness of some hard-core snowboarders/skiers, which is perfect for beginner and i...
