An oasis of peaceful greenspace in the northeastern corner of Barcelona's old town, the palm tree-lined 19th century Parc de la Ciutadella is home to the Barcelona Zoo and several excellent museums. The National Art Museum of Catalonia displays Catalan visual art spanning centuries, including the most comprehensive collection of Romanesque art in the world. The Martorell Museum and the Laboratory of Nature, two centers of the Natural History Museum of Barcelona, are also located within the park. Climb to the top of Josep Fontsere's elaborate Cascada fountain for panoramic views, rent a rowboat for a leisurely afternoon on the lake, or pack a picnic and catch an evening concert.
