Other Nearby Places to Visit
Families who want to see some of the most breathtaking sights the Dominican Republic has to offer should consider taking a tour of Los Haitises National Park. The park has a diverse ecosystem and is home to a wide variety of plant and animal life. It was also once home to the Taino Indians who left behind cave drawings that can still be seen today. There are even a number of beaches, caves and mountain ranges within the park, some of which can be accessed during excursions. From the town of Sabana de la Mar, board a catamaran and enter the forests of Los Haitises National Park by way of its many rivers and waterways. The boat sails through mangrove forests before reaching San Lorenzo Bay where visitors can take in stunning views of the surrounding mountains and flora. Visitors have a chance to stop at two caves during the tour, where they'll find various artwork made by the Taino Indians. Tour guides even provide information about these indigenous people during the excursion, making this a great chance for kids and teens to learn about the native cultures of the region. Once the journey through Los Haitises National Park is finished, families are taken to a ranch where they can eat an authentic Dominican lunch. For the last stop, visitors can go for a swim in a local river before being driven back to their hotels.
