Based in the Charleston Harbor in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, the Patriots Point Navy & Maritime Museum is a top tourist attraction. People come from all over to explore the museum and fleet of national historic landmark ships, including the USS YORKTOWN, Cold War Memorial and the only Vietnam Support Base Camp in the U.S. Patriots Point offers several tours to help visitors navigate the area and to gain a better understanding of the U.S. Navy history. On the USS Yorktown, which was the 10th aircraft to serve in the United States Navy, families can tour the Flight Deck all the way down to the massive engine rooms that powered this great ship. Located on the USS Yorktown is the Congressional Medal of Honor Museum, featuring interactive exhibits that explain the origin of the Medal of Honor and its distinctions. The Shipyard Museum houses historical anecdotes, photos, and artifacts, including some of the earliest diving equipment used by the very first Navy Seals. When hunger strikes, families can buy a hot lunch at the CPO Galley onboard the ship.
