An animated figure of Paul Bunyan looms over the entrance to Paul Bunyan Land, a unique amusement park in the Brainerd Lakes area. Famous in American folklore, Paul Bunyan stands tall in Minnesota legend -- 26-feet –tall, to be exact. For more than 50 years, the Paul Bunyan figure has been greeting kids as they enter the park, which has become a tradition with many local families. After greeting Paul Bunyan, visitors can go on a number of classic rides including the Tilt-a-Whirl, a roller coaster, Ferris wheel and flying cages, as well as smaller-scaled, gentler rides for younger children. Visitors with a taste for history will enjoy the Old-fashioned Cook Shanty with its miniature animated logging camp, the mysterious Mine No. 1, and This Old Farm Pioneer Village. For older children, the game arcade provides a welcome distraction. Paul Bunyan Land is located six miles east of Brainerd on State Highway 18; admission includes all day use of the rides and the Pioneer Village.
