The Phoenix Art Museum, one of the largest art facilities in the Southwest, is a fun and interesting place for families to see while vacationing in the area. Home to over 16,000 works of art, the collection ranges from centuries-old relics to contemporary pieces. There are a number of family-oriented exhibits as well, from a collection of miniatures to a “Please Touch'' children's gallery. The museum boasts an amazing costume collection, and offers surprises like a walk-in mirror room dotted with thousands of colored lights. Children can explore the museum with kid-sized backpacks containing activity cards and other creative items; these KidPacks can be checked out free at the front desk. For the grownups, the museum features famous works by Claude Monet, Georgia O'Keeffe and Alexander Calder, as well as other paintings most people only get to see in textbooks. The onsite Palette Restaurant serves salads, sandwiches, small entrees and a kids’ menu in a casual atmosphere, and the museum also has an excellent gift shop. The Phoenix Art Museum is well worth a visit for Parents and Kids of all ages.
