The highest peak in all of the Caribbean islands, Pico Duarte lies about 53 miles northeast of the Dominican Republic's lowest point, Lake Enquirillo. About 3,000 people hike Pico Duarte and the surrounding mountains every year. There are five different routes to the peak, leaving you to choose which to take depending on how much time and stamina you have.
