One of the prettiest children's museums you'll find anywhere

Parking costs five dollars for nonmembers. There seems to be plenty of it however, and it is immediately adjacent to the building. If you are visiting the city in the summer, you can take a two-dollar Phlash shuttle from Center City to the museum. The museum opens at 9. Although the website says to avoid the morning because that is when school groups come, we arrived soon after it opened and found that it was fairly empty until around 11:30.

Tips for Families

Unlike the cafeterias at other children's museums (The Strong Museum, for example), the Please Touch Cafe is actually a worthwhile lunch spot. Yes, there is the obligatory terrible pizza, but if you look beyond that, there are tasty and nutritious options in the sandwich cooler, like tuna salad, turkey and cheese, etc. on whole wheat. Whole fruit as well as non-syrupy fruit salad is available as well. However, there is not nearly enough seating, so be ready to stand there with your tray like a vulture waiting for the next available table to open up. There's additional seating in the carousel area, but that fills up quickly as well. Go a little early (11am or so) or a little later (1pm or so) for your best chance of finding a table. Or better yet, grab your table as soon as you see one open up and then send someone in your party to the cafe to bring back lunch for everyone.

So I  took a kid I was babysitting to the Please Touch Museum this past summer and had a great time! It's  HUGE! I can't speak from a parent's perspective, but I really thought it was a well designed museum with lots of fun areas for the kids. I would recommend it for younger kids (probably ...

My 3 yo old son had a good time here, and I did too. But if we lived nearby, it's not the sort of place we'd go to more than once a year. I thought the tickets were a bit pricey (charging the same for adults and kids? really?), plus charging $8 for parking is sort of tacky (not like there's a lot around the museum). My main gripe is there were lots of school groups with older (6-8 yo) kids who were minimally supervised -- I spent a lot of time making sure my son "got his turn" and wasn't pushed away by bigger kids when he did get his turn. I don't like being that kind of parent, but given how awesome some of the exhibits were (floating balls, rocket launcher, giant piano you can step on), concepts like "shar...

The tickets are $15 per person (ages 2 and up), and you'll get every pennies worth! We arrived at about 10:30 in the morning and went through the museum in 2.5 to 3 hours.  My 6 year old son had a blast!  It wasn't super crowded, so there wasn't much of a wait at all for the most popular exhibits.  After the first 3 hours, my son wasn't done, and we spent an extra 45 minutes running through his favorite exhibits.  He would have stayed even longer if   I wasn't starving and dragging him away to get something to eat. I love that they had the most popular exhibits (usually the ones that move) not only staffed, but timed as well to ensure that each child gets a fair turn.  My son's favorite exhibits were Water W...

We went there on Friday afternoon, drove less then 2 hrs from queens, NY, arrived a little after 1pm, staff were pretty friendly(except the kitchen staff, felt like 20 some yrs ago back in school cafeteria...), if you can, bring your own food or just swing to pats or genos cheese steak.... you can reenter within the day with your ticket. The play materials were suitable for kids from about 2.5 yrs to 6 yrs old...beyond that.. I think a science museum would be a better bet, such as the liberty science center in NJ. But my son is about 2.5 yrs old, he had a lot of fun, loved the automotive area and the water table area, could not drag him away. lower level area is a little dim for me, and it certainly has room...
