In its heyday, the Point San Luis Lighthouse projected a beam of light 20 miles out to sea from one kerosene lamp set high in its tower. The Port San Luis Harbor District purchased the lighthouse in 1992 and opened it to the public as a historic and recreational park. Today, visitors to the Point San Luis Lighthouse can enjoy great views and possible sightings of whales, sea lions and otters. To learn about the lighthouse and its history, visitors can book a tour. Trolley tours and seasonal tours are also available.
