Real Reindeer!Flag review
This is one of those rare places where the parents get just as excited as the kids. Real reindeer? I was giddy; my husband was having a bit of fun at my expense, but he was thrilled, too. Prancer's Path is located at Antler Ridge Farm in Baldwinsville, a suburb of Syracuse. It usually opens for public visits on weekends starting at the end of November and ending the weekend before Christmas. We went this year with a group from Mommy & Me of Central New York (membership required). The owners were very hospitable and led us to the barn, where we got to see, touch, and feed real reindeer. They also showed the children how the reindeer shed their antlers and let them touch the velvet. We were served hot chocolate by an outdoor fire pit, posed for pictures in Santa's sleigh (no Santa, unfortunately - that would have really made it magical), and each child was given a small gift at the end of the visit. This is definitely a new Christmas tradition for us. I hesitated reviewing this because I don't want it to get too crowded, but I couldn't not share such an awesome attraction. Prancer's Path definitely deserves the accolades.
Tips for Families
Call ahead to be sure that it is open. It is run out of a small family farm, not a big company, so dates and times may vary. It's pretty out there as far as commutes go, so bring your GPS. If your child believes in Santa, don't worry - the staff won't spill the beans. Feel free to ask questions about his whereabouts, when he's coming back to collect the reindeer, etc. They will play right along.
