Take a stroll through Raphael’s Rooms (Stanze di Raffaello) as part of an all-day excursion to the Vatican. Raphael’s Rooms are a series of apartments beautifully frescoed by Raphael and his assistants. Each of the four rooms hold a piece of Raphael’s artistry in them. The first room, Stanza dell’Incendio, displays several frescoes including the Borgo Fire, illustrating an event that swept around the streets of the Vatican. One of the highlights of the apartments, the Stanza della Segnatura, holds the School of Athens fresco, showing a mythological gathering of the greatest minds in history including fellow Vatican painter Michelangelo. The Stanza di Eliodoro features many of Raphael’s frescoes including the intense Freeing of St. Peter from prison and the title fresco Heliodorus Expelled from the Temple. The Stanza di Constantino completes the series of Raphael’s rooms although the frescoes in the Stanza di Constantino were largely completed by his assistants after his death.

Tips for Families
Sundays tend to be the busiest days at the Vatican Museums, including Raphael’s Rooms. Entry tickets can be purchased beforehand to avoid long entry lines especially prominent during the summer. This can be a challenging area to take children due to massive crowds and long lines. It is recommended to take the three-hour Vatican For Families Walk option with Context Travel or a similar program to effectively navigate through the museums.
