Newly-renovated Residence Inn full of charm and serviceFlag review
Always a little hesitant to stay at a hotel smack in the middle of a neighborhood known for its nightlife, I must say I was pleasantly surprised, and even delighted, with the Residence Inn Gaslamp in San Diego. Recently renovated with a Victorian motif, and full of modern accents, the hotel is located on bustling 6th Avenue, within easy walking distance of the waterfront, Children's Museum, Petco Park, and the light rail system. Featuring the classic Residence Inn policy of full breakfast 7 days a week, our family was filled up every morning with pancakes, juice, fruit, and all things in between. Our room was more than adequate for three people; our son slept on his hide-a-bed (I do wish they had made it up for him; no bottom sheets or extra blankets to be found, anywhere!) happily, and we loved the full kitchen. Staff, though, were what made the visit almost perfect. Everyone, from the floor-sweeper to Front Desk personnel, treated us like royalty, not something often found in business-style properties while traveling with kids. Smiling, willing to help, and always courteous, these folks love what they do, and it shows.
Tips for Families
If you rent a car, be aware a $38/day charge will be assessed for using the property's garage. A valet service retrieves your car, too, so with tips, costs can add up. Consider instead utilizing the light rail and/or taxis. You're close to all the fun, so hoofing it isn't a bad idea, either. Everyone walks in the Gaslamp, so you'll fit right in. Bring the best pair of walking shoes you have, and go for it. An Albertson's is right up the street; go shopping for snacks and drinks and store in your full-size fridge.
