Something we enjoyed but won't pay to do again.Flag review
Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies has lots to offer families. There are many things to see and some things to do and some hands on activities. The shark tunnel was the best exhibit in our opinion. However, it is, in our opinion, too expensive for what you get. It is also extremely crowded. There are dive shows and feedings to watch--but it's not announced anywhere that we saw when you go in--which means we missed out on some of what we could have been part of. Traffic flow, especially in the dinosaur exhibit was horrendos and the dinosaur exhibit was all animatronic. Our ten year old was disappointed and the rest of us were bored. We enjoyed our visit to the aquarium but it's not someplace we will want to go to again.
Tips for Families
Keep a close eye on little ones--it's very crowded and there was lots of pushing from older children who weren't being watched as carefully. If hungry, feeding frenzy, the restaurant at the aquarium, is crowded and expensive. They did have a special where you could buy a large pizza for $14...which is what we did. Kids meals, snacks, etc were very overpriced...but the drinks do get free refills. Gift shop--the only exit--is crowded and, as expected expensive. But right outside the entrance to the gift shop is a penny press machine. Makes for an inexpensive souvenir.
