River walk: fascinating but touristyFlag review
The river walk is the center of the action in San Antonio. Despite the fact that the river walk feels touristy and busy, it is beautiful when you look at the stone bridges, shade trees, and glistening water. I love that the river is lined with interesting architecture. The river walk is home to restaurants, bars, and shops, so this is a great place for a stroll at mealtime. If you visit during the holiday season, you’ll see that the river walk is decorated with Christmas lights.
Tips for Families
For the most part, there aren’t any railings between you and the water. This makes visiting with small children a little nerve-wracking. I would normally recommend a stroller to help ensure that young kids stay on the sidewalk, however, the walkways are bumpy and there are stairs to climb if you want to cross the river using one of the bridges. Although the river walk is family-friendly, I think it’s best for babies who can be carried or for older kids.
