As the second largest city in the Tampa Bay area, St. Petersburg has really made a name for itself. Located on a peninsula between Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, St. Petersburg gets a nice breeze from its Tampa neighbor, and has a variety of sunny beaches. The pier is the city's biggest tourist attraction, which houses a small aquarium as well as an abundance of shops and dining options. In addition, many museums make St. Petersburg a creative hotspot. It is most famously the home of the Salvador Dali Museum, but also inspires children to become the artists of the next generation through Great Explorations Children’s Museum. The downtown area provides even more entertainment, with multiple waterfront and lakefront parks for the kids to explore. Families may come for the beach, but they stay for the artistic awakening and the refreshing recreation.
