Located atop one of the highest points in the city, the San Miniato al Monte basilica is said to be one of the finest Romanesque structures in Tuscany and one of the most beautiful churches in Italy. The interior contains a fantastic Romanesque pulpit and screen constructed in 1207 and a lovely mosaic dating from 1297. The outside is just as breathtaking, with a geometrically patterned marble facade. The entire complex is surrounded by walls originally built hastily by Michelangelo during the siege, which were later expanded into a fortress. The San Miniato al Monte is the perfect place to learn about the history of Florence while observing the city's rich art and beauty.
