Rating for your family
For the best view of the beautiful pink and red rock formations dotting Albuquerque’s Sandia Mountain Range, visitors simply must take a ride on the Sandia Tram. Though this lofty, 2.7-mile ride through forests and canyons might not be wise for those with a fear of heights, the Sandia Tram is extremely secure and has ferried thousands of happy visitors up and down this beloved mountain. From high above, the Rio Grande Valley is truly a magnificent sight, sure to leave both kids and teens in awe. Once at the top of Sandia Peak, travelers can tuck into some high altitude treats at High Finance restaurant, find a hiking trail, jump on a mountain bike or even take a chairlift down the opposite side. The tram was also voted the best local spot to take out of town guests by an Albuquerque weekly in 2009, and once made the Readers’ Digest list of top 100 views. Visitors should go in the early evening for an unforgettable desert sunset.
