Sistine Chapel, Rome, Italy
Viale Vaticano, Rome, Italy| Map |
The Sistine Chapel may be where the Pope is elected, but that is not what attracts thousands of tourists. The chapel is a masterpiece in itself and is the crown of Renaissance painting. Upon entering the chapel, visitors need only to look up to see one of the greatest masterpieces of art in the world. The Sistine Chapel ceiling serves as the canvas for Michelangelo’s beautifully painted work, telling the Biblical story of Creation, the fall of man and the life of Noah. Other paintings include the famous Last Judgment, a gripping piece of art depicting Michelangelo’s interpretation of the end days.
