Somer's Garden, Saint George, Bermuda
Duke of York St, Saint George, Bermuda| Map |
Somers Garden Bermuda is a serene park named after Admiral Sir George Somers, who is considered to be Bermuda’s founder. According to local lore, after Somers died, his heart was buried on this property. His nephew, Matthew Somers, sailed for England soon afterward, sneaking the body aboard in a cedar chest in order not to attract attention from superstitious sailors. Somers’ body was eventually buried near his birthplace in Dorset. Visitors can see his modest tomb in Somers Garden, where there is a large fountain and moon gate.
