The best place to learn about Utah’s history and government is at the State Capitol, where families are welcome to go on a self-guided tour or join a guided tour. The 45-60-minute guided tours start on the hour. Brochures and maps are available at the Visitors Center for those who prefer to explore the Capitol on their own. The State Capitol has an impressive collection of paintings, sculptures, murals, statues, monuments and memorials. Two pairs of lion sculptures (symbolic guardians) sit at the east and west entrances. Inside, visitors will see portrait paintings in the Hall of Governors, a ceiling mural called Children at Play in the Gold Room and a bronze statue of Brigham Young.
