Located just 12 minutes by ferry from, the Taronga Zoo is a great place to visit during a family vacation in Sydney. Visitors can enjoy great views of the harbor while stopping to see free shows that occur daily around the site. For a truly memorable experience, families can sign up for the Roar & Snore sleepover at the zoo. There are several animal encounter experiences at the zoo: the Koala Encounter, Reptile Encounter, Giraffe Encounter, Penguin Encounter and Owl Encounter. The zoo has onsite lockers where visitors can store items. Guests even have access to free Wi-Fi if they want to use the internet on their smartphones. The Backyard to Bush area is a kid-friendly exhibit made up of a house and backyard, farm and bush. Each of these sections features various kinds of animals, reptiles and insects and is designed to educate kids about these creatures and the importance of protecting the environment. There are picnic areas at the park, so families can bring a lunch and enjoy a pleasant outdoor meal. There are also onsite restaurants like the Taronga Piazza inspired by Giovanni Pilu, located at the main entrance. Another restaurant, The View, offers a clear view of the harbor from the dining room. There are also plenty of options for food and drinks at the Taronga Food Market. Anyone not afraid of heights will want to ride the Sky Safari cable car before leaving the zoo to experience stunning aerial views of the surrounding landscape.
