Tips for Families

Check the daily schedule for story times and craft-making sessions. Definitely bring your own food; the cafeteria is spacious, but the food is total junk (gross little pizzas under heat lamps, hot dogs, etc). I am so glad I packed a healthy lunch for my daughter in the hotel before we left. Nobody bothered me about bringing our own food into the cafeteria. Be aware if you're visiting from out of town that this museum is kind of out of the way of everything. Take a cab there, but bring directions because for some reason, none of the cab drivers I met had any idea where anything was, or refused to put the address I gave them into their GPS. Be prepared to give turn-by-turn directions yourself - frustrating. Also, the Prospect Park Zoo is a quick cab ride away. That's where we went after the museum and it was nice to get outside for a bit after having been in the museum all day.

The building resembles a giant pineapple, but the architecture is interesting nonetheless! I came here with a few grown-up friends just to check out the scene, and it really is a lovely museum for kids! My favorite part was the kid-sized store-fronts of actual stores that are in Brooklyn. Kids can play with fake fruit and products and get ...

I took my seven year old son over spring break and he really enjoyed the museum.  We watched the Live Animal Encounter and strolled through many of the exhibits.  He absolutely loved pretend playing in the multicultural shops upstairs. The downside (not the museums fault at all) It was extremely crowded.  I understand it's a childrens museum but parents need to do a better job controlling their children.  During the show a young boy kept yelling at the instructor and his mother didn't correct him, the museum staff did a great job keeping their cool.   The supermarket stall on the first floor was a complete mess.  If parents supervised their children while they were playing and made sure the kids put all item...
