The Caprice Park (Parque el Capricho), Madrid, Spain

The Caprice Park (Parque el Capricho) is a wonderfully unique open space on the outskirts of Madrid that every tourist should see. Only open on weekends, the park is limited to 1,000 visitors at a time, so it feels special and private. This 18th century park was designed to express the artistic and philosophical ideas of one of the most accomplished and powerful families of the time, as well as to provide a space to unwind among the trees and flowers. It serves the same purpose today for families wishing to enjoy nature in quiet surroundings, and view the sculptures, architectural follies and gardens. Other activities include boating, games and plays which are held in the Palace of the Dukes. Children will be fascinated by the House of Bees with its large honeycomb. For families looking to relax in style, The Caprice Park should be penciled into the itinerary.
