Near the Reykjanes peninsula and the Hengill volcanic area in southeastern Iceland, Thingvellir was the center of Icelandic culture during the commonwealth period. It is home to the largest natural lake in Iceland as well as a national park that was named a UNESCO World Heritage site. Scuba divers are drawn to Silfra Lake, named one of the world's top 50 diving sites due to its geological significance and superb visibility.

Tips for Families
Camping and fishing permits can be purchased at the Visitor Center. All divers must present certification.
