For vacationers and skiers visiting the top of Mammoth Mountain, a must-see is the Top of the Sierra Interpretive Center. Touted as the highest museum in California, the Center carries a nice array of exhibits along with its panoramic views of the mountains – all at 11,053 feet in elevation! Displays cover the Mammoth area’s history, geology, weather patterns and Native American cultural heritage. The center is free with a gondola ticket, bike park ticket, ski lift ticket or any season pass; access to the museum is via the Panorama Gondola, which travels from the main lodge. For families vacationing at Mammoth during the summer, the Top of the Sierra Interpretive Center is a nice (and free) add-on to the whole Sierra experience.
