The Tread of Pioneers Museum, located just off downtown Steamboat, is a charming old-time facility that makes for a fun and interesting outing for families. Established in a 1908 Victorian home, the museum contains displays related to ranching, mining and pioneer life of the area. There’s also a very comprehensive History of Skiing exhibit, plus a Native American arts display. In addition, there's an extensive firearms collection, interactive exhibits, a Kids' Scavenger Hunt and costume area, an oral history library, local history research library and a historic photograph collection. The kids will enjoy a turn-of-the-century traveling salesman’s case with real candies in it from the period. The gift shop is fun too, with very unique items, such as antique photos. Families may want to schedule an hour at the Tread of Pioneers Museum but could easily end up staying three or more hours.
