Tropenmuseum (''The Museum of the Tropics'' in English) is one of the biggest museums in Amsterdam. Originally centered on exhibiting the culture of the Netherlands’ colonial territories, in the post-colonial era the museum has shifted its focus to anthropology and the cultures found in South America, Asia and Africa. Being built in 1926, it is a fine example of the exuberant and luxurious style buildings of the interwar, pre-depression boom years. An educational goldmine for the young and old, the museum is operated by the Royal Tropical Institute; a foundation that studies tropical cultures.
