Washington Park can be considered Portland’s go-to place for family activities of all kinds. Besides its forests and trails, there are several major attractions within the park: Portland Children’s Museum, the Oregon Zoo, Portland Japanese Garden, the World Forestry Center Discovery Museum, the International Rose Test Garden and the Hoyt Arboretum. Easily accessed at the edge of downtown Portland, Washington Park offers an extensive network of walking trails, tennis courts, an archery range, dense forests and a delightful rose garden. Even in rainy weather, the park is still a worthwhile destination, since there are so many indoor facilities. On summer afternoons, concerts are held at the park, along with frequent outdoor festivals and other events. Children will enjoy riding the Washington Park and Zoo Railway from the zoo to the Rose Garden and back, and there’s a colorful Children’s Park for smaller kids. Cafes and restaurants are available at most of the buildings and around the park. There are plenty of public transportation options as well, with light rail and buses serving the park from all over Portland. Washington Park is a well-loved treasure by locals, and a fantastic place for visiting families to enjoy.
