my lake, my lake. i love my lake. as long as i'm in dallas i'll never be able to leave her. i know she's dirty, but so is my city. the ol' man and i canoe out here as much as possible. if you venture into the creeks and have a soul, it's pretty imperative to take a trash bag with you.. especially after a hard rain washes all the filth from northwest highway down. that being said.. it's a man made oasis. it's december and the pelicans have migrated in. they fly in like B25's in formation the last few weeks of november to mid december. they're giant creatures! the water fowl selection is great.. but i've seen plenty of owls and hawks. we've also seen a family of racoons washing their meals at the side of the c...

Another City of Dallas creation, but somehow the clientel knows to pick up their own trash, for the most part. Nothing beats this bike trail, which ends up at I-635 & Forest if you know how to do it. About a 35 mile ride & very nice! Don't be stupid and try to come through here with your car unless you're willing to drive under 10 M.P.H. !!! I came here today with the kid and trust me, I was kicking myself the whole way! Spent more time in the car than the playground! My bad!!! Bikes have right of way here. I've come 100 + times but this was my first time in a car and it was SO stupid!! People fish in this lake, but the only thing this lake is good for is to pee in it! I would never eat or touch anything tha...

One of my favorite parts of Dallas.  I moved to Dallas for work from the east coast and would go to White Rock Lake whenever I was missing water..it is no ocean, but it helped ease the craving.  I really loved walking around the lake....

When we come to Dallas and stay with our friends in Lakewood, we are minutes from White Rock Lake.  Formed years ago by damming a reservoir, (damn you, reservoir!) the lake provides many fun forms of recreation for those living in the area. We enjoy coming for a brisk walk or for a slower paced people watching adventure.  There are people jogging, sailboats, rollerblading, a cool boat house, a playscape, new landscaping, children fishing, interesting birds, dogs of all sizes and personalities, ducks and turtles. My friend swears there is a Lady of the Lake ghost who haunts the lake at night and appears dripping wet in evening wear seeking a ride home.  Reports of the encounters were written up in the newspap...

For my 100th review, I must pay tribute to my favorite place in Dallas.  I can't help but spread a big old grin every time I go.  I love seeing the ducks, turtles, snakes, and other wildlife.  Sometimes they come visit my yard!  I love that I can hear at least three languages on the jogging path on any given day.  I love that parents bring their kids here to both enjoy the outdoors and to help clean up the shoreline.  I love seeing the sailboats, the old men sitting on the dock fishing, the families barbecuing, the athletes honing their skills.  A bright sunny spring day, a beautiful sunset, and even a hazy winter day at the lake all bring me joy. This is a huge reason to move to East Dallas.  You can buy a ...

I've always loved this place...Ever since i was a little kid.  My family and i used to go out there on Sundays, and watch the boats and kayakers, fish, just drive around, or if it was raining, we would go watch the big logs flow down the spillway(whoa). Now i seem to use it more than ever!  I ride my bike around it, go for a ...

White Rock Lake is one of the most underutilized assets of this city.  I'll be happy to see the Trinity River Park, but why wait a decade when we have a scenic oasis just a few minutes from downtown?  But then again, maybe I'll keep it a secret a little longer so I can enjoy the relative space-  It does seem to be a perpetual problem as the bikers, roller-bladers, runners, and families walking 14 abreast compete for space- oh yeah, and those weird triangle framed ski-bike things- what the heck are those things? Dog Park, people watching, best sunset in Dallas, picnic setups, regular races, sailboat regatas, kayaks, the arboretum, and a nearby DART station.... Now if only they could replace some of the liquor...
