Tips for Families

The Railroad is right next to the hotel and they even put on a western shoot up show before the train leaves to the Canyon in the AM. The indoor pool is heated and the roll away beds are very comfortable!

We experienced the Polar Express and took the train to the Grand Canyon.  If you have young kids, especially ones who love trains, you probably can't go wrong with this.  From an adult point of view, you have to put yourselve in the proper frame of mind.  What else can explain hundreds of kids with parents/grandparents in tow, all wearing matching Christmas themed pajamas wondering around town, hotels and the train depot.  It must be a strange sight for anyone who no longer believe . . .   So we did get hot cocoa as thick as melted chocolate bars - almost too thick and sweet.  You also get a cookie that is gluten and nut free - saves the hastle of dealing with all the allergy issues these days.  For my obser...

This is the BEST family friendly vacation spot I have ever seen. The people are ALL friendly. The cafeteria/chow hall serves like 10 main courses. I must have gained 5 lbs in the 2 days I was here. 10 different deserts-the f...

Rode this train to the grand canyon a few weeks ago, and it was a blast! They were wonderfully accommodating to our party, given that one of our guests was in a wheelchair. Our attendant, Katie, was incredibly nice and so warm and welcoming, we really had a great time with her. The actual train ride is a bit long, but as many people have said before: you don't have to worry about anything! Take a nap, grab a snack, read a book, you can do whatever you like! Show up to the train station on time, and you're sure to have a relaxing day at the Grand Canyon. They really do take care of you, and all employees are amazing-- you can tell that they really love their job. It's really the perfect thing for kids! Everyt...

solid. kids can get a little bored [mine are 11, 9, and 3] during the train ride, so let them bring their ipad / itouch or whatever keeps them entertained on long car rides. the scenery during the 2 hours and 15 minute ride only entertained them for short ...

This review is not for the hotel, it's for the train...the train was incredible and fabulous...my kids loved it...we took the train to the GC and stayed the night...the GC is incredible on it's own merit but the train is the most entertaining way to get there...don't expect to sleep for the 2 1/4-hour ride...the employees are very informative and the entertainment is excellent...I don't want to give anything away plus I am sure you can find what you are looking for in the other reviews...if you have kids, you need to take this train ride at least once...my favorite part was having my daughter say to me 'Daddy, I wanna get robbed!'...it was a hoot!  Also, the Cafe car was a good way to see what riding a real ...

Ok, so this was fun. =o) Avoid parking hassles and have a fun time going and coming from the Grand Canyon.  Amber Rose was our attendant and she an absolute riot!  She made everyone have fun whether they liked it or not.  She was very helpful in ensuring we get the most out of our 3 hours at the Canyon.   It was a pleasant trip through the back country and the kids had fun with the trip as well.  There are western/country musicians that make their way through the cars.  There's a snack car which has reasonably priced food and drink (and beer and wine) all cash though. I think I would stay overnight next time.  3 hours was enough for the kids for seeing the Grand Canyon, getting their junior ranger certificat...

The only thing stopping me from giving this a 5 star rating is the amount of time allowed to spend at the Grand Canyon itself.  If you only book the one day trip, your train doesn't arrive at the Grand Canyon until 11:45, then you have a bus tour that takes about an hour and 45 minutes.  By the time you get back to the main part of the village you basically have 2 hours to yourself, and if you decide to have lunch before doing anything else, you have even less.  This may be a good thing for those who just want to be able to say "I've seen the Grand Canyon".  You do get to see it, and it's beautiful.  But if you want to do things like hiking or some of the other things, there really isn't time.  The train bac...
