Tips for Families

The park gets crowded, especially during July and August. Brace yourself for traffic and a lot of people -- or go in the winter; Yellowstone is majestic any time of the year. Also, even in the summer months, dress in layers; the temperature in the park can range over 60 degrees in a single day based upon time and elevation. Finally, Yellowstone is stinky, so make sure to prepare your kids for the sulphur stench so that they can focus on the beauty, not the smell, when you visit the park.

Tips for Families

Plan on at least 4 or 5 days to get an overview of the whole park and hit all the major highlights; if you have a week or more, you can go a lot deeper. The rangers are a wealth of information and there are junior ranger programs throughout the park.
