Most of us don't get to see these animals unless we go to a zoo, so take it as an opportunity.Flag review
We had a unique experience, because we went in the winter (very mild in 2011) and while the cost for ZooAmerica is supposed to include Hersheypark, (there's a walkway you can just go through to get across, but you can't buy a shared ticket at the Zoo end) the hours were completely incompatible with the Zoo closing at 4:30pm and the park open at 5-10pm the night we were there. As we arrived at 3pm the guy behind the counter let us in for 1/2 price,(Blessing!) and quite frankly, we got it all in just fine in that time. I always feel somewhat sad for the animals, so zoos are a hard place for me, but at the same time, I know most of us would not otherwise encounter wildlife up close. Do the ends justify the means? Probably a debate since zoos began. If the animals are treated cruelly, which in America is rare, then obviously the answer is easy. Since ZooAmerica provides a clean, safe environment for animals and people to have face to face live interaction of sorts, it is not a bad way to introduce our children to the natural wonders of our world. These particular animals might be worth pursuing in their natural habitat not far from home, and perhaps this is a good reminder of our shared environment.
Tips for Families
Check the hours, and assess the possibility of both Hersheypark & ZooAmerica for the same ticket price.
