Love the Swan Boats

Flag review

We had a few hours to spend on our last day in Boston so we decided to ride the Swan Boats and the Carousel. My son, although 11, loved both. The weather was beautiful for the 15 minute peaceful cruise in Public Garden Lagoon.

Tips for Families

The cost is $3.00 for adults and $1.50 for kids.

Children's Museum of New Hampshire - Dover

Flag review

We visited this gem of a children's museum while visiting Dover, NH. It was especially fun as downtown Dover was having their trick or treat event and most of the kids were dressed up. There is a Yellow Submarine to play in, Tinkering Lab, Dino Detective, Build It/Fly It, mini Post Office and many others areas.

Tips for Families

There are two levels of membership: basic and club. Club memebership benefits also included (free or reduced, according to their guidelines) to more than 300 organizations within ASTC network - www.astc.org

Nice museum for a few hour visit

Flag review

This was a very nice art museum. My son enjoyed some of the more contemporary art created by the students of RISD. It was a nice way to get a taste of many types of important works of art in a museum that is very easy to navigate. My son also enjoyed poking around the gift shop afterwards.

Tips for Families

The museum gift shop sells several healthy, kid friendly, affordable snacks. The lobby is a nice place to hang and take a kid snack break. We were able to easily find a parking space right out front on a Sunday. Sunday are free entry at the museum.

Loved this little animal park

Flag review

My son, my father, stepmother and I visited the cute animal safari park. Basically you drive your car through the park and feed the animals either grain or carrots you purchase there. I was afraid my 10-year old would be too old to enjoy this park but he loved it. He loved the alpacas and feeding the giraffes carrots through the sunroof of the car. There is also a pretty good sized zoo with many animals in cages. The area is nice and shady on a summer day. Our favorites were the monkeys, white alligator and area where they had pig racing.

Tips for Families

They have free camel rides for the kids under 11.

Better than you average hotel at this price point

Flag review

We moved from from the Quality Inn in Mystic to the Ramada Inn in Groton. We felt this place was much cleaner and in better repair. Both places are basic hotels for about the same price. However the pool at the Quality Inn was broken and that is a deal breaker for my family. The staff at the Ramada are very helpful. And the hotel has an indoor pool, hot tub, in room fridge, microwave and free continental breakfast.

Tips for Families

The location is great with a Walmart and grocery store across the street and a five guys burgers right next store.

Beautiful Beach

Flag review

I agree – Magen's Bay is one of the top beaches I've visited. It is surrounded on 3 sides by lush mountains. The water is clear and there are no rocks in the water. My family found a shaded picnic table right near the water's edge.

Tips for Families

There is a $4 per person charge to get into the beach. A bar sells food and beers. You can also find restrooms and showers on site.

Kid-focused pool in Breckenridge

Flag review

This is a nice sized recreation center. My son loves to swim whenever we go on vacation and if we have a hotel without a pool we often check out the local recreation centers. The one in Breckenridge has a lap pool, a leisure pool with a water slide, a vortex and kiddie fountain. Other amenities include a track, hot tub, cardio equipment, bouldering walls and a racquetball court. Prices are a bit steep at $15 for adults and $7.50 for youth (3-17).

Tips for Families

Bring your own lock.

Great hill for sledding and tubing

Flag review

Located four blocks east of Main Street, Carter Park has a great sledding hill in the winter with beautiful views of the mountains. They do not rent sleds there so you will have to bring your own which you can find at the Walmart in nearby Frisco. We love to bring inflatable tubs; the kind you use for rafting. In the summer you can take advantage of the playground, sand volleyball courts, tennis courts and dog park. Near the recreation center is a free skate board park and kayak park.

Ice skating rink

Flag review

The Breckenridge Ice Rink has both indoor and outdoor ice rinks. (You can skate year-round indoor and the outdoor is open seasonally). Adult prices were about $8 and $6 for kids. They also rent helmets and have the free “EZ Skate Aids” for kids just learning how to skate. It was not happening when we were there, but they host Curling and Broomball competitions which I thought would be fun to watch.

Tips for Families

Look for the Holiday Ice Show and Disco Skate Nights.

Good terrain for beginners and intermediate skiers

Flag review

If you’re not staying in one of the condos at the bottom of Peak 9 base area, it’s an easy to walk from Main Street. Breckenridge is a great family friendly resort and less expensive then Vail or Aspen. Breck has both ski and snowboard schools for kids, as well as child care/nursery for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. Peak 9 has especially good terrain for beginners and intermediate skiers. Peak 9 Restaurant, at the top of the Beaver Run chair lift only serves breakfast and lunch. I saw breakfast burritos, hamburgers, sandwiches, espresso and of course microbrews on the menu.
