My Travel Style

I am not a very "outdoorsy type" person. I love disney and Vegas. Sure their are other great spots but I really love them! So I guess you could say I like more main stream locations versus places off the beaten path.

Baton Rouge zoo in an afternoon

Flag review

This is a great way to spend an afternoon. The BREC zoo is not to big and not to small, its just right. You can see everything in an afternoon very easily. This zoo has a buzzard exhibit. I have never seen that before. The giraffes can get rather close to you if they choose. This is geared more towards smaller kids. Its great because they will not get overly tired due to too much walking.

Tips for Families

Bring your sunscreen and drink a lot of water.

giddy up!

Flag review

This is a fun tour for everyone. The adults love it because its interesting and you get tid bits of history along the way. Their is never a wait to get one the carriage either. They do take credit cards and it is SAFE! The kids love it because its an adventure for them. They get to explore whats around every corner without having to walk at all. Its a much needed break. Also, our carriage driver allowed our kids to each have a turn stearing the carriage. The looks on the little faces where priceless. They carriage drivers know a lot about the city so if you have any questions make sure to ask them! They point out interesting places and tell interesting storys and facts along the way. And with all the walking you have been doing its an added bonus to sit down.

Tips for Families

ask to feed the animal and maybe your driver will let your kiddos drive the carriage

a little of everything

Flag review

This is almost a one stop shop. You can buy all sorts of items here. They have purses. They have jewlery. They even have produce. If you are in need of souviners this is the place to go. You can get shirts, books, totebags, and even luggage if needed to brin home all your new goodies. I love checking out the flea market everytime we are in the city since the inventory is ever changing. I have gotten so very unusual silver jewlery and hand bags here. You can get books on cajun culture as well. They have art and items from all sorts of artisans here as well as mass produced items. It you are looking for something out of the ordinary this is the place for you to check out.

Very interesting

Flag review

This is a good place to visit. Just maybe not with your kids. This made me very nervous. I was so scared they would touch something or break something that I could not enjoy the visit. Also, they were bored out of their minds. This is not a place for small kids. It has to much art going on and not enough for them to do. I think this would be good for teens. Especially those teens that like art. The exhibits are always changing so if you like art and think your kids would enjoy it check out their website and see what will be showing at the time of your vacation. Its a nice place just not for my kids.

Tips for Families

students get in at a discounted rate so if you are in college bring your school ID.

rock and roll baby

Flag review

This is a chain so you kind of already know what to expect. It is fun and LOUD. This is not a place for infants because the noise may scare them. And if anyone is not fond of loud noises they need not come here. It is filled with "artifacts" of musicians from now to way back. This place has a ton of details down to the door knobs. They are little guitars; so cute. The menu has a lot of options for every budget and desire. They even have a kids menu. The servers can be "alternative" so make sure your kids are not going to be pointing at the noise rings they may have. (we learned the hard way lol) The burgers are really good. The is a fun place for lunch. You can walk in and check the place out with out buying anything.

adults only!

Flag review

This is a fun place. For adults. Sure they allow kids here, but I do not reccomend it. This street has a lot of adult themed shops and entertainment. Some of the entertainment spills out in the streets and you can see the scantly clad girls. They have tons of bars here as well as drunk people. Not a place I want my kids. But if you have someone that can sit with your kids this is a fun place. Their is all sorts of clubs. Their is adult entertainment every where. Its a lot of bars and strip clubs. But they have live music everywhere. It is fun and New Orleans is kind of know for this street. You owe it to yourself to try it out if you can and are interested. But this is not the only thing New Orleans offers if this is not for you so do not write off the entire city based on this one street.

Tips for Families

do not NOT NOT NOT take your kids!

YUMMY!!!!!

Flag review

This is an awesome dessert shop. You can see the beautiful and tasty cakes, cupcakes, candy, macaroons, and gelato here. You can have them send them to your house and of course you can eat some there. The gelato is delish! My husband and the kids loved it. The only thing is that some of the cakes and candy are so pretty you don't want to eat it...but trust me you should. It tastes even better than it looks. This is a very dangerous place if you are on a diet. Everything is so tasty!!!! You have to get a gelato on a hot day!

Tips for Families

they give samples of the gelato so the kids get something they like

The backdrop of NOLA

Flag review

This is a must if you visit New Orleans. You can not go to this city and not visit the square. You have to get your picture taken with the square in the background. This is truely a beautiful backdrop. If you are lucky you might find a wedding march going on (people get married in the church all the time). This is a spectical you can only see in New Orleans. On the edges of the square their is artists selling their works. Many are one of a kind pieces at reasonable prices. Some times you even see street preformers. They have a lot of little shops in the area that sell some very unique things...they are worth checking out. Make sure to tell the kiddos no touching!

Tips for Families

Do not take pictures of the art; it doen't go over well.

not what it used to be

Flag review

The riverwalk used to be very interesting. It had unusual shops and restruants. This is no longer the case. I think its very average. At one time they had a jewlery store that had "guards" dressed like they were from England standing watch outside of the store. They had a magic shop where the employees did tricks and had mini magic shows. They also had a place that made fudge and sang a cute little tune while they did so and gave out samples to the people in the audience. The last one is the only one still there, its not as special as it used to be.

Tips for Families

The food is expensive and not that great....eat else where.

Very nice location

Flag review

This is a very nice hotel. It is in a prime location, steps away from the Riverwalk, the casino, convention center, aquarium, Bourbon St (not ok for kids ;) ),great restruants, the French quater, and Jackson square. This is a fairly new hotel and it is run well and kept up. Parking is a bit of an issue but you have to pay to park everywhere in this area. The hotel has a modern layed back atsmosphere that is very homey feeling. The beds are really comfortable and the bathrooms are really nice and open.

Tips for Families

This is a little pricy and the kids are not allowed to go to the casino, not even for a meal.
