My Travel Style
We love to travel. We are always planning our next adventure. It is usually a city vacation and hardly ever a resort. Our kids travel with us most of the time and when we say pack your backpack and carry on, they know it will be fun!

Best Vanilla Shake in the Universe without the long lines
Flag reviewThis kid friendly spot is a favorite in our family. Their burgers are juicy and they claim they are from grass fed beef. While the fries are simply OK, we really enjoy their desserts, in particular the smokey vanilla/coffee shake. Another plus is that they serve beer and wine.
Tips for Families
While the lines are not as long as in the NYC locations, during the dinner time rush, you might have to wait as long as fifteen minutes to order and then a while to be served.

YesQuaint Up-Island Shop
Flag reviewMenemsha Blues is a quaint little shop near the harbor. They also have a store in Vineyard Haven and Edgartown. I enjoy picking up sweatshirts for the kids in this store in particular, because I can browse more leisurely on my own, while the kids and my husband explore the dock or the rocky beach nearby, just a few feet away.
Tips for Families
They usually have good sales on summer clothing after the third week in August.

YesEverything We Wanted and More...
Flag reviewWe stayed at Casa Galina for four wonderful days. My children loved Richard's "Girls" - his chickens, and we loved Richard. So many details: fresh eggs every day from the chickens, fresh baked goods made by Richard himself left for us in the evenings. Richard was everything an innkeeper should be, available when we needed him and knowledgable about the area. We look forward to returning to Casa Gallina.
Tips for Families
The compound consists of several "casitas" -- small houses, ask Richard about the layout of each house in order to find the one best suited for your family's needs.

YesCity Kid-Friendly Attraction At Its Best
Flag reviewThis is an ideal place to take the kids while in NYC. While the parents take in the fantastic views of the NYC skyline, kids can enjoy a great playground and one-of-a-kind carousel. To cap the afternoon head to one of the great local restaurants, our favorite is the Vinegar Hill Factory, a short walk away. The restaurant is not exactly kid friendly, but if you get there on the early side, you will enjoy one of the best charcuterie plates this side of the atlantic, my kids love it and say merçi!
Tips for Families
Check out their web site to plan your visit. They update it regularly and often have great events for children.

YesSummer Means Ice Cream
Flag reviewNothing says summer fun like ice cream! We gear up for ice cream every night when on vacation in MV. We each have our favorite ice cream parlor here on the Vineyard, my favorite is Mad Martha's. Their coffee ice cream is creamy but strong, just the way I like it.
Tips for Families
There is also a Mad Martha's in Edgartown.

YesGood food and Picture Perfect Views
Flag reviewThis place is just the perfect spot to enjoy breakfast on a warm summer day. They have inside and outside seating, but, once you see the views of the blue ocean water and the Gay Head Cliffs below, you will be vying for one of those outside tables. The place is casual with a simple menu and portions are on the small side. Their biscuit with egg and linguiça (portuguese sausage similar to chorizo) is a favorite in our family. Parking can be tough in the area, but if you're patient something always opens up.
Tips for Families
After, walk over to the tower viewer so the kids can take a good look at the beautiful Gay Head cliffs, but, be mindful that nudist frequent this beach.

YesSmooth Sailing with the Steamship Authority
Flag reviewEverything in life should run as smoothly as the Steamship Authority. When traveling to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket, the Steamship Authority will get you there. Its vessels are clean and timely. I find their web site easy to use and their staff, whether on the telephone or on the vessels very costumer friendly. The vessels have restrooms and food. The food is nothing special, just packaged snacks and drinks, but will do until you get to your destination. When planning a vacation to the Vineyard or Nantucket, the traveler must plan in advance when taking a vehicle, spots are reserved months in advance. If you wait too long, you'll get stuck with a very late in the evening or very early in the morning ferry. For my family, the ferry ride to Martha's Vineyard is half the fun, my kids peer out to the horizon and see who is the first to spot land -- we love the ferry!
Tips for Families
When bringing bikes, you must remember to mention this at the time of reservation because you must pay an extra fee and they must allocate the room on the ferry.

YesGreat Performance Space
Flag reviewIn an area with lots of performance spaces, what makes NJPAC stand out in my view is that they feature more unusual acts. Parking and public transportation make it very easy to get there, making it an ideal venue for families.
Tips for Families
Their web site has a list of upcoming shows. Throughout the year they feature several kid friendly shows.

YesThe Perfect Small Museum Experience
Flag reviewWhen you are looking to spend an hour in a museum, but do not want to feel overwhelmed, this is the perfect place. Beginning outside with the beautifully elegant architecture of the building, this is a subtle treat for the senses. As soon my daughter turned ten, she knew she was ready to visit the Frick. The Museum has a policy that does not permit children under ten to visit due to the fact that they have few ropes and other protections for their pieces. Visiting the museum was a milestone for her and a delight for us all!
Tips for Families
Remember, children under ten are not permitted, so plan accordingly.

YesThe High Line Park Delights All Ages
Flag reviewI love this place! Great on any day, there is always something new at the High Line. Such a different perspective of NYC. After, head to the french bistro on the corner of 18th Street for wonderful French food and wine.
Tips for Families
This place is great on a any day, just remember your sunglasses, sunscreen and bottle of water on summer days.
