Fun for older kids

Flag review

This was more fun than I thought it would be, the tour guide was very informative and kept the kids entertained. Even as an adult, there was a lot I learned about Columbus and his boats!

Tips for Families

Go early, it gets crowed later.

Great fun for science minded families!

Flag review

If you're kids like science you cannot miss this place. We went for the special Mythbusters exhibit that was there, but there was so much more to see. We spent at least 6 hours here and my son loved all of it. There were some good science shows, a water play room, some outdoor exhibits and lots of hands on activities.

Tips for Families

Get there early and stay late! If you buy a membership to your local science museum you can use the reciprocal benefits here.

Good location, cheap hotel

Flag review

I booked this hotel pretty cheaply on Priceline, which is good because I would have hated to spend a lot on it. It was very small and the rooms were not that great. We couldn't get a good temperature in the room because of the A/C settings and the bathroom door would not stay open. There were also rips in the curtains. On our second night the hotel key card wouldn't work and we had to get a new one. The pool area is very small and gets crowded quickly. The staff was not rude, but not real friendly either. The location was good because it was a quick drive to the park and Destiny USA which we visited, but I wouldn't stay here again.

Tips for Families

Skip it!

Great to visit if you're near Hershey!

Flag review

The whole family loved this place, it was amazing to walk into the cave and see how big it is. There is "graffiti" from the 1800s and other fun stuff to see. It's a lot cooler in the caves too and can sometimes be dark. It's great if you have any family members into nature or rocks. There is a small playground and some other activities like gem mining.

Tips for Families

There are alot of stairs down to the cave (and back up again), would not be good for very small children that could run off and you would not be able to take a stroller in. Also, get there early. We were the third group of the day and there was a huge line as we were leaving.

Crowded, mostly for shopping

Flag review

There are a few fun things to do here, but be prepared to pay for it. There is a free ride that shows how chocolate is made, but I don't think it's been updated since I was a kid! There is a nice movie about chocolate that you have to pay for and we had fun making our own chocolate bar, which was another fee. We got there early in the morning and I was glad we did, within an hour or two of opening we could hardly walk in there! It's nice to see if you're a chocolate lover, but it won't take too long to get through everything.

Tips for Families

In the summer they offer a "character breakfast." It is a great deal because you get into Hershey World before it officially opens, you play candy bingo, eat breakfast, meet the characters and see the little movie they have. There is a historian who guides you through everything and he is very informative and answers any questions. Great to do with little kids or anyone who would be overwhelmed with the crowds that come later.

Too much walking, long waits for bus

Flag review

We stayed in a pirate room, which was nice for my son, but very far from the main pool and dining areas. It was quite a walk to just refill your drink, you pretty much had to take the internal bus to get to the dining area if you were tired or in a hurry. Also, we were one of the last bus stops, on a busy morning during Star Wars weekend buses for Hollywood Studios kept passing us because they were full. It took over half an hour just to get a bus we could actually get onto. The rooms were basic Disney, not too roomy, but not cramped either. Liked the pirate theme, but would not stay here again since it's much too large.

Tips for Families

Pirate rooms are the furthest from the dining area and main pool, if you want that theme then be prepared for plenty of walking and waiting for buses!

Must do in Myrtle Beach!

Flag review

This is a great way to learn about Myrtle Beach and the surrounding areas. You learn about plantations, slave history, wildlife etc. You stop a few places to look around, but most of the stops are pretty short, so don't expect long walks or time to dawdle around places. I do wish we did this earlier in our vacation (it was our last day when we did it) because it just opened my eyes to so many other things we could have visited in the area. The tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable, my son was not bored at all!

Tips for Families

The seats are really not comfortable, might want to bring a seat cushion if you're prone to back or other problems while sitting. They have a couple shorter seats for children, so you don't need a booster.

Pricey, but worth it at least once

Flag review

My son was 5 when we attended, I'm not sure if a 3 or 4 year old would be patient enough to sit through the whole show, but 5 and up seems good. The entertainment was very good, it was fun in the lobby meeting characters and seeing different displays. The drinks and souvenirs were very expensive. Everything was organized well, so it was easy to get everyone into their seats. The food was decent, even my son liked most of the meal. The best part for my son was seeing the horses and the jousters. It was sometimes hard to hear the story line, but he didn't really care about that part. After the show you can meet some of the cast, they also have falcons out for the kids to see. It is expensive, but it's a nice experience to have at least once.

Tips for Families

Prepare to spend some cash!

Expensive, Small and Crowded

Flag review

We were in Myrtle Beach in early April 2011, it was not busy season there yet, so I was not expecting the Aquarium to be busy. I was so wrong! The line outside was insane, it took at least half an hour to get tickets and they were not cheap. Once inside it was hard to see anything because there were so many people. It is a very small aquarium, so even without crowds it wouldn't take more then an hour to walk through. If you have a kid who loves fish, this may be worth it, but otherwise I would skip it.

Tips for Families

Find a time when it's not crowded.

Best hotel in Niagara Falls, NY

Flag review

This is a great hotel to stay at while in Niagara Falls, NY, though not completely kid friendly. There is a lot of smoke as it's a smoking casino, so there isn't too much for the kids to do. There is a pool that is nice enough and most attractions are within walking distance. The rooms are large and I love the huge shower in the bathroom.

Tips for Families

No bathtubs, showers only. Nice buffet with lots of options for kids.
