Great hotel in the Chelsea neighborhood

Flag review

Everything about NYC is fun, but tailoring a trip with a teenager requires a bit of work. Eventi Hotel was gorgeous and lovely to stay at and we would definitely return. It was close to all the places we wanted to visit: Rockefeller Center, Times Square, and Nintendo World. My son is a gamer, so that was his favorite place to go. Everything about the hotel room was high-tech and updated and we look for that in a modern hotel. The Chelsea neighborhood is beautiful to walk through and stunning for photography if you like that.

Tips for Families

Bring your walking shoes and backpacks if you're going to travel by foot (which is recommended). We found that when we had questions, people were extremely friendly, especially any police officer we happened upon on the trip.

Close Enough to Chicago, Great Little Town

Flag review

Schaumburg is technically a suburb of Chicago, but it has an independence to it as a town. The Residence Inn was our choice since we stayed for over a week and it was clean and accommodating there. But our favorite parts of the trip included going to the

Tips for Families

We did a great bike trail at the Ned Brown Forest Preserve and then did a lot of shopping, but that wasn't necessarily fun for our teenager. Younger kids may enjoy the FireZone, a kids firehouse. We always enjoy Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament, though it can be rather expensive.

Wonderful area, gorgeous in the fall

Flag review

I fell in love with Pasadena the first time I went for work, so I knew I would return for more visits. The first time I stayed in another hotel and brought my family back to a Hilton because of past experiences at them. This one had older decor, but my teenage son doesn't care about that stuff. There were quite a few events going on and next time we would choose a more family-friendly environment, but the Hilton Pasadena is close to lots of places we ended up walking to in the neighborhood. I love Pasadena in the lush fall, though I expect it's nice year-round.

Tips for Families

Our son enjoyed the Paseo Colorado Mall and we ended up taking in a movie that got out late, but we felt safe walking back to our hotel. The area is really friendly. Lots of kid museums and science related activities, but we also enjoyed the food and learned that we loved tapas. On one of our date nights, we found Red White + Bluezz and had the best night with great music and the friendliest people ever.

Kids & San Francisco Are a Good Mix

Flag review

This trip was one of our favorites as a family because of the number of things to do in San Francisco. We were never bored, walked everywhere, and spent very little time in our hotel. The rooms were great, but basic and affordable. Very clean, but lacking in the warmth that would make you comfortable there for longer than you'd need for sleeping and changing clothes to get ready to leave again.

Tips for Families

Our favorite activities were the obvious ones: Pier 39 and the GoCar tours. I wouldn't take younger children on the Alcatraz boat tour, but there are plenty of kid-friendly activities at Pier 39 for elementary aged children. The Ghiradelli Chocolate tour wasn't as fun as we wanted, but ended up going to a park near there for an impromptu picnic. The food in San Francisco is amazing.

Decent hotel, great attractions

Flag review

The Hard Rock Hotel in Chicago is an above average hotel for a couple staying there, but we took a teenage son who wasn't as impressed as we were. It was nice and clean, but we didn't spend an inordinate amount of time at the hotel. Instead, we only slept there and spent the rest of our time going to attractions. My teenage son loved all the places we visited and we enjoyed being tourists in the town in which I grew up but no longer live. Perfect for a long weekend getaway for a family.

Tips for Families

The area that the Hard Rock Hotel is in is perfect for a summer vacation, even if you live near the city. It's centrally located and close to so many places that it makes for a great "home base". Attractions that are close and worth the visit are Millennium Park, Shedd Aquarium, and Navy Pier. Make sure you see the spouting faces at the park on a hot day to cool your family off during the day.

Music Family Fun in Memphis

Flag review

We stayed at the Westin Memphis on Beale Street to have a family trip that included lots of musical exposure. Our family also loves to eat, so having music and BBQ so accessible made for a perfect trip. The hotel was clean, their beds are amazing, and the food was fantastic. It's across the street from Gibson Guitar Factory and FedEx Forum where the Memphis Grizzlies play. The location of hotel was perfect. The only reason I'd give it a 4 and not a 5 for traveling with kids was because of the amount of drinking that happens in the area. Families with younger children might not find that appealing, but our teen was old enough to deal with it.

Tips for Families

Don't plan downtown activities after dinner because the streets fill up with a lot of people drinking alcohol. However, don't let that stop you from visiting because the music surrounding this place is astounding and you'll have plenty from which to choose.

Fancy, but lots of activities

Flag review

Our teenager thought the hotel was super fancy, and it was, but that didn't stop us from enjoying our time at the Peninsula. While he played video games in the hotel room and ate popcorn that he ordered from room service (the World's Best Popcorn, he says) we had a couples massage. Since we were there close to the Thanksgiving holiday, we ate turkey sandwiches and sweet potato fries at the restaurant and loved the food.

Tips for Families

Try the Skating Rink Wonderland and let your kids be Little Bakers at the Peninsula Kids' Academy.
