Perfect place for our Disney celebration

Flag review

We planned a trip to Disney to celebrate my 13 year old's graduation from home school to high school. Disney is his favorite place, so I wanted to make it special. We rented a Boardwalk studio villa from a DVC points broker. It was much less expensive than going through Disney, and although I had never done it before, it was a great decision! I had done the online check-in, and we were met at the entrance to the Boardwalk lobby by a cast member who led us inside and walked us through the check-in, directed us to the concierge to transfer our tickets to our room keys, and was generally great. I had been a little apprehensive about not being a DVC member and buying the points, but the whole process could not have been any smoother. The villa was a short walk from the Boardwalk lobby, and had plenty of room for the three of us(my oldest daughter came along because she and my son are very close.) The room had a small kitchenette, so we were able to have breakfast and snacks in the room, which saved us some money on meals. Having the sink and shower area separated was a great help in getting ready each morning. My daughter and I shared the queen bed, and my son slept on the pull-out couch, which he said was very comfortable. It was a new design, where the pillows folded into the coucn as it pulled out - very neat! We watched the sunset from the balcony, and spent time just walking the boardwalk. There was a laundry room just for the villas that was free to use, and although small, we had no trouble getting a machine. Having the boats to go to Epcot and Hollywood Studios was wonderful, and having the option of walking back to the room after the parks closed was so relaxing. Although we don't typically spend this much on a room when we come to Disney- we generally go for the value hotels - it was worth every penny for the convenience, and to see my son so happy. I would definitely rent points again for a special occasion.

Tips for Families

The studios are great but if I had more than 3 people, especially if you have older kids, I would definitely go with a one bedroom. We had a preferred studio because that was all that was available for our dates, and being close to the lobby and the boats was nice, but I would not pay for that upgrade if I had the choice. We brought breakfast food, coffee, and water bottles from home, and froze the water bottles each night to take to the parks. By eating an early breakfast in the room we were ready for an early lunch which helped us beat the crowds at the restaurants.

Great Visitors' Center

Flag review

We visited Biloxi over Spring Break, and this place was amazing! I grew up in Mississippi and learned things here that I didn't know. There are several hands-on exhibits and a very well-done history of the lighthouse and the Biloxi area. There are short movies, slideshows, and benches to sit on while watching. The staff was very friendly and helpful, there was free coffee, and even the bathrooms were spotless! Be sure and go out on the upper balcony; the view of the historic lighthouse and the beach is beautiful.

Tips for Families

Take a few minutes to stop here before you drive down the beach road - it makes what you see more interesting.

Great place to take Tweens and Teens

Flag review

We ate at Raglan Road in the Westside, Downtown Disney, in January. The food was good and the Irish dancers were great. After eating, we took our time walking back to our car. I never realized how many outdoor entertainers were available in that area. We had a great time stopping to watch each performer, then wandering to the next one on the street. It was a perfect way to walk off a big meal and get ready to sleep well that night!

Tips for Families

The outdoor band at Raglan Road was great; you can stop and watch any of the entertainers without feeling like you have to buy food, and on a weeknight, the crowds aren't heavy or rowdy.

Great Family Place

Flag review

We stayed at the Old Faithful Inn for 2 nights during our vacation to Yellowstone. It was expensive, but so worth the money to wake up in such an historic place, right next to Old Faithful. Our room was small, but we were able to sleep 5 of us with an inflatable mattress, and we had a private bath. The lobby was beautiful, and we ate lunch out on the top patio while Old Faithful erupted. I would truly recommend spending the money for at least one night here - even though our kids were spread out in age(9 - 19), they all were impressed with the Inn, and have asked every summer when we will be back in Yellowstone.

Tips for Families

We did not pay extra for the Old Faithful view room; there were plenty of places to see the geyser from the hotel or up close at the benches set up around it. Eat at the restaurant for lunch; it is less expensive. The food was just okay, but sitting on the upper deck to watch Old Faithful more than made up for it.

The Boardwalk Inn at Disney

Flag review

Our family always stays at the Boardwalk when my husband attends his annual convention at DisneyWorld. We have never had a bad room, and the hotel is beautiful inside and out. To save a little money, we always bring breakfast items with us and eat before we leave for the parks, but at least once we go to the bakery for breakfast. You can't beat the convenience of the Boardwalk for eating and getting to Epcot and Hollywood Studios. We have had rooms facing all sides of the resort, and have never had a problem with noise. Having 2 queen beds and a daybed means we fit easily into the room, and the lobby and outside sitting areas mean we can always find a place to sit a relax after being busy at the parks.

Tips for Families

Get pizza from the walk-up window on the Boardwalk in the middle of the afternoon(no crowds) and eat at one of the tables facing the water. Stay to watch the Epcot fireworks, then walk back to the Boardwalk instead of taking the boat; it's usually faster and provides some downtime before getting the kids ready for bed.

Great Value at DisneyWorld

Flag review

We chose Pop Century because of the price; we were trying to do a Disney trip on a budget. I was worried about the size of the room, but it was not a problem at all. The first thing we did was unpack and assign each person a drawer for clothes, then we put the suitcases back in the car. That made all the difference for us - no stepping over bags all week! The room was great, and the food court was large and never felt crowded or rushed. The lobby kept the boys entertained during check-in and after meals, as they enjoyed looking at all the things on the walls, many of which we had to explain! It was a great flashback for me and my husband, too. The bus service was good, and the pool and laundry room very convenient. We have been back once since then, and plan to go again next month.

Tips for Families

Unpack clothes into drawers and onto hangers, then put away the suitcases; it makes all the difference in the space available in the room. Spend some time in the lobby, just looking at the memorabilia and sharing with your kids the things you had in your room when you were their age!
