Cute, but rather small

Flag review

I take my daughter to this aquarium about once a year. Although it is rather small, she is extremely happy with it. You can pick up a free recorder that gives a little narrative about each tank after you enter the tank number onto your keypad. Each person may have a recorder so you don't have to stick to a group or huddle to put your ear around it. After the indoor aquarium, there is an outdoor tidepool-like area where a volunteer attendant usually is posted to assistant visitors with holding one of the creatures. Last time, she got to play with a hermit crab which tickled her hand so she was amused. Next, there is a great big lawn for the little ones to exhaust any remaining energy (perfect for nap time after). They can also watch Hawaiian monk seals play and swim (or sleep). Last but not least is a cute little gift shop if you're willing to buy a little souvenir.

Tips for Families

The aquarium is a short walk/drive to the Honolulu zoo. Since the aquarium is rather small, if your little ones are up to it, you can pick up some lunch after the aquarium and head into the zoo. That should be enough in a days fun to tire out the little kiddies!

This place is huge!!!

Flag review

My daughter and I had so much fun at this place, its more than just a zoo. To fully walk and enjoy all of nature around you, I'd say take at least a day and a half, 2 days if you have the time. We went for just a day and we were rushing to see just our favorites! Her favorite highlights were the petting zoo, the reptile square, and of course her sweet little pandas (baby was in the building being monitored, but you can go online to watch the live feed of her living space). There are peacocks and wild birds all around you, it's fun for the little ones to try and spot them hiding in the trees, almost like a game!

Tips for Families

If you have really little ones, I highly suggest you take a stroller just in case their little legs can't handle walking all day. Even with rest breaks, my active 5-year old needed to rest. Instead of just sitting at a restaurant, I pushed her so she could still rest and continue to see the zoo at the same time.

Almost like a 5th Park!

Flag review

If you have time after the 4 parks (or even just your favorites), try and save at least half a day to swing by this place. They offer awesome restaurants, cool stores (both Disney and non-Disney) and even host the 2nd Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique (make reservations!). My daughter loves to stop by Goody's Candy Store (they offer freezes in a bunch of flavors, chocolate covered goodies, and make your own candy bag by weight). She also loves to eat at the Rainforest Cafe (they also offer one right outside of Animal Kingdom). I personally am in love with Earl's of Sandwich (especially their Holiday Sandwich). Stop by World of Disney store to find just about anything for souvenirs, clothes, or gifts. They also offer a Lego store and another fabulous restaurant, T-Rex. At the beginning of this restaurant, they have a build-a-dino which is so neat! Once you're seated (reservations HIGHLY encouraged), you're surrounded by aquariums, moving dinosaurs, glaciers, and a storm that passes about every 20 minutes.

Tips for Families

Take them to check out the lego store, World of Disney, and take them (or yourself) for a treat at Ghiradelli's. If you're there at night, grab a cup of coffee or hot cocoa and get ready to dance at the center stage!

What an Experience! The Last Quarter of THE WORLD

Flag review

Where do I begin? For little ones, I can tell you my daughters favorite place to stay ALL DAY is in innoventions. Children are like sponges in that place, learning a bunch of new things. She LOVES her Piggy Bank game (I think she played it over 20 times the last time we went). You can even continue your adventure online when you get home to keep the spirit of saving alive. If you want to take a relaxing ride, go in THE BALL and learn about the revolution of electronics. For the children a little older (that are allowed to drink soda), take them to the Coca-Cola store where you can sample different flavors of the drink (some are so yummy, others? Not so much...) There is a water play area on your walk to the different countries. I would say to fully enjoy all the different things Epcot has to offer and stop by every country, I'd give it 2 full days. In the Sea, you can make reservations to eat at the restaurant where you dine alongside fish. Finding Nemo is also a hit with the little ones and when you get off the ride, you'll find yourself in an A/C building full of aquarium life. There are dolphins, Fish, Crabs, SeaHorses, etc. You can even have a real-time conversation with Crush from Finding Nemo! In the Land, you can get on a boat that takes you through Disney's garden and eat fresh concoctions while waiting for Soarin' (height requirement). In the countries, I always stop by and grab goodies at almost every country (I'm so bad). My daughter really enjoys getting a passport and getting it stamped at every country, which makes for a great (free) souvenir. My personal must-haves are the margaritas from Mexico, the title candies from Japan, the Funnel Cakes from America, and the French Onion soup from France. Each country literally makes you feel like you're there. Don't forget to see Illuminations!

Tips for Families

Take to Innoventions last...unless you want to stay in there ALL DAY! There is so much fun to be had for any school-aged child. Don't forget to check in with Kim Possible to go on a mission with her throughout the entire park! Check what time Illuminations is and plan to scope out a seat around the bay about an hour before the start time.

Rawr! Another Quarter of THE WORLD

Flag review

This park is a must for any animal lover! It is so peaceful, yet entertaining! There are lots of yummy places to eat, but I must admit, my first stop is the little coffee shop that offers frozen chai lattes. To die for! And for the kids? Get them a nice m&m cookie for a snack! Their parade is so much fun to watch and dance to so don't miss it! I would say the must-sees are the Lion King show (go early as seating is limited). If you go with another adult, have one stand in line while the other can take the little one(s) around right outside the Lion King arena to see the characters. If you go around Christmas, the characters are all dolled up in their holiday garb, so cute! Another must-see is Rafiki's petting zoo and conservation. For this, you must take the Wild Life Express train to the back of this park so make sure you schedule to get on that train before the last call! If you plan on returning to DisneyWorld, I always like to take a picture of my daughter in front of the "tree of life" sign. It is so cute (yet sad) to see how she grows every time we return. My daughter also enjoys everything in the Dinosaur section of the park, especially digging up bones and going down slides in the Boneyard. They also have some really cute rides for the little ones in that area. If you have little ones that aren't afraid of creepy crawly things, take them to It's Tough to Be a Bug! It's 3-d and also has some special effects (hint: keep your feet off the ground). For the daredevils and those not afraid to melt in water, take them to Kali River Rapids and Expedition Everest.

Tips for Families

To any of the Disney parks, take a complete set of extra clothes along with a towel. Have the kids wear a swimsuit under their clothes when they enter the park if they plan on playing in the little areas that offer water play (or after you're drenched in Kali River Rapids)!

Magical!!! Another Quarter of THE WORLD

Flag review

If you like to dream, go here. Simply put, this park mainly caters to the little ones, but has something for just about anyone!!! With the new Fantasyland, I'm sure it has almost anything and everything to offer for the Disney-Lover. The little ones can appreciate Dumbo (although the lines are pretty long), Cinderella's Carousel, It's a Small World, etc. If you plan early enough, you NEED to make reservations online for Dinner (or lunch) in Cinderella's Castle! It is so amazing to be in there and if you schedule a dinner around the fireworks time, you can look right out the castle windows with great viewing! Of course, there are the 3 main mountains that the daredevils can attempt: Thunder, Splash, and Space. You can bring in your own food to these parks if you are going to do Disney on a Budget. We usually bring snacks as we like to sample Disney foods for our main meals. If you plan to stay at the park all day and need to kill time while the little ones sleep, take a peaceful ride on the train that circles around the park.

Tips for Families

Make sure to bring lots of snacks! Nothing like a hungry little one tugging on you when you're standing in a long line. If you go with another adult, attempt the ride parent swap! I've never tried it, but heard it works wonders!

Just One Quarter of THE WORLD

Flag review

There is so much to do at Disney Hollywood Studios, anyone traveling with little ones should allow at least one day to do the minimum sightseeing and minimum rides at this park. The must-sees are the Toy Story Ride (which usually sells out of fasspasses first thing in the morning and the regular wait time is usually over an hour) and the Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show (which has a huge grandstand so seating is not a problem). Besides those are Pixars Character Greetings and Honey I Shrunk the Kids play area (my daughter especially loves the 'spider web'(net)), Aerosmiths Rock and Roll ride (which is not for the faint of heart), and amazing shows. Playhouse Disney, Beauty and the Beast, and American Idol just to name a few. My daughter and I love to eat at the 50s Prime Time Cafe as it makes us grounded again (since we like to dream) and appreciate how times have changed.

Tips for Families

Plan your day strategically and get in the park as soon as possible to get your FassPass tickets!!!

Great Location and An Awesome Restaurant!

Flag review

I love everything about this hotel! The parking fee is not as horrendous as other hotels, the location is so great (right on the corner of the main strip and across from Waikiki beach and a couple blocks away from the Honolulu Zoo), and my favorite highlight has got to be the Oceanarium Restaurant! Their buffet out of this world (check their website for their dinner menus, as they have different specials on the buffet line by weekday; I know Monday and Thursday nights are king crab legs, but don't ask me how I know that ;)). My daughter usually is done eating way earlier than I am, so she ends up watching the fish swim by and if you schedule your dinner around the divers who feed them, that is another bonus. I have hosted many birthday dinners here also. If you pay a small additional fee, you can have the restaurant write a personalized sign in the window for the diver to surprise the birthday guest with (or anniversary, engagement, etc). It is just a wonderful experience that I hope you can enjoy soon!

Tips for Families

Reqest a window seat when making reservations at the Oceanarium. Your kids will get an up-close view of even the tiniest fish swimming around in that tank, so that maybe you can enjoy your buffet dinner in peace?

A Lot of Fun and Great Place for a Movie Trivia!

Flag review

This place is amazing! A peaceful 45-minute drive from Waikiki will head you out north to this ranch that is a ranch and more! They offer wedding venues, educational and bonding experiences, parties, movie tours, and many more outdoor activities. We are family friends with the owners and my daughter always enjoys to ride her "horsies" when we have nothing else planned. They also take you through the neverending fields of green grass and you can play movie trivia with your family. She also loves finding the pigs that roam free and are pretty friendly. If you work up a sweat, just head across the street to Kualoa beach for a dip in the ocean!

Tips for Families

Make sure to visit the petting zoo and find Wilbur and Princess, the pigs!

My Daughter's Princess Birthday Party

Flag review

I chose to have my daughters 5th birthday party at the Pacific Aviation Museum. I'm still receiving compliments about not only the party, but the actual facility. It is well-maintained and have something for everyone. When there is not a party scheduled, it is just another quiet museum that holds so much history and cultural lessons. Through the museum are 5 flat screen tvs that take you through December 7, 1941 and the days surrounding it. There is also a gift shop and a restaurant. For an additional small fee, you can also ride a simulator that is a lot of fun. Definately worth a visit!

Tips for Families

Make sure you get the ride simulator add-on for children as they like to think of it as a ride! Enjoy this piece of history!
