    Luxurious hideaway on the lake

Mirror Lake Inn epitomizes Lake Placid’s mix of upscale elegance and rustic, outdoorsy charm, whether you come during the winter for skiing and snow sports or in the summer for water sports. The place has a ton of street cred with skiers, as the owners’ son won a bronze medal at the 2010 Olympics. The lobby and public areas exude a classy Adirondacks vibe, and we had a beautiful suite overlooking the lake, with a separate bedroom with bunk beds and video games for the kids. Nice restaurants, lovely accommodations, and a wonderful location in one of the most fantastic mountain villages in the Northeast.

    Tips for Families

If you go during the winter, there are some fun family activities on the frozen lake, including dogsledding and tobogganing. The Lake Placid Toboggan Chute ($30 for our family of five) has been a winter staple in the two-time Winter Olympics village since the 1960s. A converted wooden trestle-style ski jump fitted with ice-covered chutes sends toboggans zooming up to 1,000 feet across frozen Mirror Lake. It’s a blast for all ages.
