Convenient Brooklyn Location, Luxurious Room, Pricey for Families

My guest room on the 12th floor was spectacular – very large, spotless, and well appointed with a city view of the Manhattan Bridge. I expected a small, city hotel room, and was very pleasantly surprised by the oversized accommodations of at least 400 sq. feet. The large rooms are a plus for families, and they can even recommend a babysitting service for an additional fee. The room’s furnishings may be more appropriate for a mature business traveler versus a family, but I have yet to meet a child that’s not happy with a TV and comfortable bed. The hotel itself is ideally situated in the Brooklyn Heights neighborhood, only 1 block from the NYC Metro Tech or Borough Hall subway stops. Therefore, guests have easy access to the A, C, F, 4, & 5 subway lines, the new Barclays Center, Coney Island, or Manhattan, and is less than a mile walk to Brooklyn Bridge Park.

    Tips for Families

The downside of the hotel is its pricing – with rates near $300/night (and could be as high as $500/night) that can add up with a lengthy family stay. However, if one is flexible with their travel dates, deals can be found – sometimes as low as $169/night (and that’s not bad for a luxury New York City hotel room).

Huge Rooms and a Pool in NYC

We stayed here for two nights during my husband’s business trip. Pros – very clean, convenient to transportation, and the biggest rooms I’ve ever seen in NYC! Our room literally had its own entrance hallway. We didn’t get a suite, but we didn’t need one. We just set up our daughter’s inflatable travel bed at the other end of the room. There were no moldy or musty odors, everything in the room was very clean and modern, housekeeping was excellent, and there was even a PBS Kids channel available for free. We received excellent service at the front desk, from the concierge, and from the baggage handlers. Just a couple of cons – the restaurant downstairs was closed off and only the very noisy bar area was open. The escalators in the lobby kept breaking down. Also, one staff member told us that we had earned complimentary internet access for being Marriott Rewards members, but the next day when it expired (you have to reconnect every 24 hours, which is pretty common in major chain hotels) another staff member was rude to me when I called Guest Services requesting assistance reconnecting. She said she had no record of us as Rewards members and got snippy with me when I asked her to please look up our account. After a brief but very unproductive conversation, I asked to speak to a manager. The manager resolved the issue quickly and I was satisfied (and connected wirelessly) from that point forward.

    Tips for Families

Take advantage of the indoor pool! Very uncommon in NYC at this price point. Call the hotel before you visit if you have some flexibility in your travel dates to avoid any scheduled conferences/conventions. This hotel is a popular business event location, and when conferences are in session, the lobby and front desk areas are mobbed almost 24/7.
