Just spent 5 nights at The Westin in Kaanapali. We normally stay at the Grand Wailea but were looking for a bit of a change for this trip. We used Amex points to pay for most of the room charges so by doing this the room rates were very very reasonable. The hotel is a nice resort with probably the best beach of all the resorts on Kaanapali beach. The resort is literally right next door to Whalers Village which is a nice place to walk around to look at the shops. It also give s you bit more of a restaurant choice without having to get in the car. There are all the beach services you could ask for here.... right off the Westin beach you can get on large catamarans for snorkeling or sunset cruises, banana boat ...

We arrived to find check in time at this property was 4 pm. This is really on the late side and when you travel Melbourne Sydney Honolulu Maui it's not great to have to wait 5 hours to check in! Unfortunately I was unwell with a fever so I spent the day sitting in the lobby area . What I observed all day was others arriving and every single family group being told their room wouldn't be ready til 4 . How can it be that no rooms were ready earlier? 4 pm came and there was a queue of approx 20 family groups with two receptionists on duty . I have never in all my traveling seen anything like this .
