Family Road Trips By MiniTime
About Route 66:
US 66, established in 1926, was one of America’s original highways. It originally covered over 2,400 miles, beginning in Chicago, Illinois, and traveling through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, before ending in Los Angeles, California. Though officially removed from the United States Highway System in 1985 after it had been replaced by the Interstate Highway System, sections of the road in Illinois, Missouri, New Mexico, and Arizona are now designated a National Scenic Byway of the name “Historic Route 66.” It continues to be one of the most iconic drives in America.
