    Best Vacation with kids

We loved Resort at Squaw Creek! There was so much do to for all of my kids. They have a shallow pool right next to the sandbox for the little kids to make sand castles, rivers or whatever their hearts desire. No worries if the kids put sand in the pool, they clean it out nightly. The other pools had water volleyball games going and a third pool had a water slide for bigger kids. Added bonus there are multiple hot tubs to warm up in if you happen to get cold. Later in the evening we took the free bus to Olympic Valley for dinner, we ate at multiple places during our stay all were wonderful. Kids were able to walk around outside, sit next to fire pits or climb on rocks. Plenty of night activities with concerts to movies outdoors and free shuttles back to the Resort when they finished. We biked to down the Trukee River bike trail and made a few stops along the way where kids were able to play in the river. Water was shallow and calm enough for our 2 yr old to play. The trail was easy enough that our 11 yr old biked the entire time without complaints.

    Tips for Families

You don’t need to bring water/sand toys for the pool, they had tons of them available for use for free. Be sure and check out the daily whats happenings, there was always fun stuff scheduled. The happy hour in the bar had awesome food/drinks that they allowed us to take to the pool.

    One-stop Winter Sports Resort

Resort at Squaw Creek is a ski-in ski-out mountain resort in Lake Tahoe. It has a chairlift that goes directly to Squaw Valley although beginner skiers will feel more comfortable taking the shuttle directly to Squaw as the it’s more of an intermediate run. What I love about Resort at Squaw Creek is the the plethora of winter sports available on-site: a skating rink, cross country ski trials, snowshoeing, sledding and even dogsledding in the adjacent meadow. It’s an easy way to try out winter sports without schlepping kids all over. The outdoor jacuzzis were a big hit with the kids – it’s a gorgeous view sitting around the pool area. The food is very good and trending toward farm-to-table and more healthy options. With kids we liked the upscale deli (think Dean & Deluca) for breakfast and quick bites – the portions are large. Rooms are comfortable and cozy and if you’re kids can sleep together on a pullout the one-bedroom king suites provide a good amount of space to relax with a table for 4 and fireplace. The Mountain Buddies kids program is excellent – they take them outside to go ice skating, roast marshmallows ,etc – have used it twice with great results both times.

    Tips for Families

The one bedroom suites have a microwave but not a full kitchen so you cannot prepare full meals. The only downside of the resort is that you will need to take a shuttle to Squaw Valley with beginners. You can also take another shuttle to Alpine using the same ski pass as Squaw and my beginner kids loved this mountain b/c it’s smaller and more manageable.

    Amazing Family Vacation

Our family loved the Resort at Squaw Creek. My kids favorite part was the swimming pool. They had a shallow pool for the little kids that is right next to the sandbox so kids can take sand to the pool or water to the sand and build to their hearts content. Don’t worry about getting sand in the pool as it was cleaned nightly! They had other pools for the older kids and adults. One pool had a nice water slide another had games of water volleyball going on. Multiple hot tubs to keep you warm and never feel over crowded. There were movies going on at dusk in the pool area for the kids too. We took advantage of the free shuttle and went to Olympic Valley for dinner multiple nights. Ever place we ate at was good, no complaints from anyone. The kids were free to run outside, climb on rocks or sit by various fire pits. Bring your smores stuff cause you can make smores at any of the fire pits! There was always something going on, movies and concerts, plus free shuttles when events ended made it easy to get back to the resort at the end of the night. We biked the Trukee River Bike Path one day, kids loved it. Not too hilly and older kids can easily make it. We stopped along the way and let kids out to play in water, was shallow and mellow enough for our 2 yr old to enjoy too. The golf course was an added bonus for the guys! They had a few specials going on with dinner and golf, check with club house they were very informative. Kids golfed for free in the evenings.

    Tips for Families

Don’t worry about taking water/sand toys for the little kids, they have tons available for use at the pool. Take advantage of the happy hour in the bar, food/drinks were delicious and they allowed us to take them to the pool. Make sure and check the daily happenings, there was so much going on everyday.
