NOC RocksFlag review
NOC is the place to go for some white-water rafting (Class I and II with a single Class III at the end of the 1.5 hr journey down the Nantahala River. They also have a zip line and rope course. The package deal is the best as it will save money in the long run should you decide to do both the Rope Course/Zip Line and some rafting. It is not cheap, so look for prices online and coupons and specials before you make the trip up there. Be prepared with some basic stuff like water socks/shoes, closed toe sandals (that can get wet), flip-flops are not allowed on line course or for rafting. They provide flotation devices and all you need to do is bring some swimming gear and a change of clothes. Don't worry about car keys... they will collect keys and electronic fobs and secure them for your trip down the river. Guides are good and safety is paramount. Zip line crew check and recheck your harness and make sure all is secure before you head down the 600-foot zipline and enter the rope course's two levels.
Tips for Families
Plan on spending about $50-80/person for Rope and Zipline + white water rafting Open toe shoes and flip-flops NOT a good idea Wear bathing suit under clothes and bring a change of dry clothes as they have shower and dressing room facilities Water Socks/shoes (buy your own and bring for less, they do sell, but not a deal $ wise) Pack a lunch as eating at the local restaurants are OK food, but can be expensive. Avoid the "Burger Basket".... unless you want Hep A.
Suggestions for nearby family-friendly accommodations
Places to say... if you want a cabin I would suggest renting this one early. http://www.stonewoodcabin.com/ StoneWood Cabin... great folks, cool cabin and only a mile from NOC hub.
Suggestions for nearby family-friendly restaurants
NOC has a restaurant (River's End) and a smaller cafe to grab some food. Bryson City and near by Asheville have higher end restaurants.
My Kid's Review
"Zip Line was Cool!" - Mic (12-yo) "I loved getting wet when we went rafting down the river." - Madison (10-yo) At first reluctant, our 14-year old didn't want to do the line course or water adventure, but then once geared up she had a ball.
