Grab a Bite, Head Outside and Watch the FerriesFlag review
The current Ferry Building opened in 1898 and while it still serves as a ferry dock, it's most well-known for having the who's who of Bay Area food vendor and artisan merchants. They're all here; Cowgirl Creamery, Blue Bottle Coffee, Miette, Hog Island Oyster Company and the list goes on and on. Add in the eclectic gift and clothing merchants and this is an outing. While kids won't appreciate the gastronomy or the shopping, they will like watching the action at the back of the building where ferries and people watching are the game.
Tips for Families
Cowgirl Sidekick has good sandwiches and for immediate hunger relief the Argentine grab-n-go empanadas at El Porteno always hit the spot. Head towards the back of the Ferry Building for indoor and outdoor seating. The central area is usually crowded and can be overwhelming for small children.
