A different world right outside of New OrleansFlag review
The Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve was simply beautiful. Having just spent four straight days in the city, it was really nice for our family to get a little fresh air. This is one attraction that probably requires a car, but it was worth it. My history buff father in law was excited to see the old battlefield and my daughter could not believe her eyes when she spotted her very first alligator just off the boardwalk. Honestly, I was pretty excited, too. We also had a nice time walking the trails (definitely more of a walk than a hike) and the visitors center had some interesting exhibits. We also saw some snakes, salamanders and herons. I would highly recommend taking the camera! Apparently this place is even more lovely when the irises are blooming, but sadly we missed them. There are also guided nature/historical tours, but we opted to explore independently and still had a great time.
Tips for Families
Be sure to grab the bug spray, there were plenty of annoying flying critters at Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve.
