Hang Ten in MalibuFlag review
Ah, Malibu like in the movies! We spent the day at the beach like Gidget would have! Body surfing, building sand castles, eating buckets of fries, playing frisbee, and lounging...dozing...being lulled by the Pacific. The coolest place to do this is at Paradise Cove! We arrived early and still were lucky to get one of the last parking spaces. After setting up our spot on the beach we went for a long walk. Paradise Cove has some of the most unique beaches-- with bluffs, tidepools, and secret caves. So many movies and TV series have been filmed here; it's fun to imagine you're on set! Arriving back at Paradise Cove just in time for our lunch reservations, the kids were delighted with their tropical drinks served in hollowed out pineapples and coconuts, with orchids floating on top. The meals were HUGE. The scenery was classic. And the people watching was fascinating! After lunch we waddled over to our beach blankets and soaked up the California sun for a while before hitting the waves. There are actually some pretty good size waves here (not so great for little kids, but so much fun for my tween and teens) and the body surfing was awesome! There are cabanas and beach huts for rent but the coolest are the beach beds! So LA! We can't wait to go back-- surf's up, dude!
Tips for Families
Be sure to plan on lunch at the cafe (kids should share meals due to the size of the orders) so you can park in the lot there for $3 for four hours with validation. Otherwise it's a $30 fee. Also, pack lots of layers as it can be a bit chilly, especially at sunset.
