Cliff Hike with Ocean and Marine Life ViewsFlag review
Torrey Pines State Reserve overlooks the beach and Pacific Ocean and is home the nation's rarest pine tree, the Torrey Pine. During the winter months it's common to spot a passing whale and the dolphins are out year-round. There are 8 miles of trails, a visitor's center and guided nature hikes on weekends. For families, the Guy Fleming trail is easiest especially with small children and meanders along a 2/3 mile loop path down and around the cliffs.
Tips for Families
There are a couple of areas that are not fenced and have small drop offs so young children may need hand holding. We had no issues hiking with a 5 and 7 year old. This is a good activity to do in the morning then drive 20 minutes to La Jolla for lunch and a stop at the Children's Pool to see the seals.
