We have visited Great America in Gurnee many times over the years. Sometimes with kids and sometimes without. This particular trip we had 4 adults, 2 teenagers, and an 11 and 9 year old. The season is winding down in Oct, the day was a bit chilly, AND Hurricane Harbor was already closed for the year - all of these make for a much smaller crowd to deal with. At least you can get on the rides in a reasonable amount of time. Try and arrive before they open, parking spots are better ($20 per car) and there were 2 entry points to get through - I think the first was a bag check and the second for tickets. If you had a discover card, there was a separate entrance with no lines at all! We were allowed to bring 1 sealed water bottle per person. This has not always been the case. One more thing, bring a cooler full of food/drinks. It costs a lot of money to eat inside. Many families bring foldup chairs and tables and eat right in the parking lot. So even though we live within a few hours of the park, we always double check as much information as possible before going. Makes for a much nicer day all the way around!

Tips for Families

Use the internet to search the park you are going to. Reviews, blogs, park website - take an hour and read up on what other people went through. There is so much information out there!

Lots to do, clean, friendly, close to any other interesting attractions.

Weekend outing with family group of 12. Shuttles very helpful. Nice variety of water activities as well as non-water fun: mini golf, ropes, laser tag, pottery, arcade, etc. Something for eveyone.

Tips for Families

Walmart a few miles away if you forget something, right off a main highway so easy to find, nice sized rooms.
